Personality:
Dark Pit is the opposite of Pit. Which is where most of his personality traits come from, being the opposite of Pit's. Dark Pit is more serious than his doppelganger, and has more of a dry sense of humor. He is more observant as well, and solves problems on his own instead of relying on a goddess like Pit does.

When in battle Dark Pit does not let up his attacks, constantly slashing at his opponents. As a result he of this, he is arrogant, believing he can defeat anyone. He is also smarter/sharper minded than Pit as he can quickly analyze the situation and his opponents and exploit their weaknesses.

Dark Pit, for most of the game, sees himself as the "original" Pit, as he is the physical embodiment of Pit's more negative emotions, most notably, is the way Pit truly feels about serving under someone else. Which is why Dark Pit is so independent and has a disliking towards the gods.

Dark Pit, would not side with the underworld army or the gods portraying him as extremely independent. Dark Pit's independence is probably one of his stronger traits. For most of the game he is seen helping Pit, but only for personal gain. He says that multiple times, just to ensure everyone knows.

From the moment of his creation, and during his appearances in game, Dark pit show's a strong disliking to all of the gods. This is mainly because of his strong desire to maintain his independence and because he holds within him Pit's true feelings about serving under Palutena. Close to the endgame, Dark Pit flat out says he thinks all gods are selfish and no better than the humans.

However, as the story progresses, Dark Pit's personality changes. He realizes that without Pit (whom he before sought out to destroy because Dark Pit believed that Pit "stole his style") Dark Pit would cease to exist. As such Dark Pit begins to respect and care for Pit, and is willing to risk his life to save Pit's (and he does on multiple occasions). And after the credits roll, Dark Pit has come to be more of a rival to Pit, and begins to understand that not everything has to be done alone.

Backstory:
Dark Pit was created while Pit destroyed Pandora's Mirror of Truth. And because of this He and Pit share a strong connection. However, the mirror was destroyed before the copying process was complete, which resulted in Dark Pit being not simply the opposite of Pit, but a physical embodiment of Pit's repressed emotions.

He shows up multiple times helping Pit indirectly by taking out underworld troops. And at one point Pit's soul becomes trapped for three years leaving Dark Pit in a coma, which is when Dark Pit realizes he and Pit are connected. When Pit's soul returns to his body, Dark Pit wakes up determined to rescue the now possessed Palutena. It is during this rescue when Dark Pit's personality begins to change. He is shown more willing to help.

Upon rescuing Palutena, Dark Pit becomes possessed, and Pit saves his life. Later on Dark Pit returns the favor (losing his power of flight in the process) multiple times, and the two of them become friendlier towards each other.

Dark Pit arrived at Smash Academy simply because he followed Pit here. He wouldn't want Pit to surpass him now would he?

Anything Else?: Dark Pit surprisingly has a soft spot for Souflees (floating desserts with faces that give out hearts when you shoot them) and he enjoys flying despite the fact that he now needs the help of a god/goddess to do it. Also Dark Pit and Pit share a connection, as Dark Pit is able to sense when Pit is in danger.

In-Character 1st person sample:
This is my first brawl. I can't say I've never done something like this before. I've kicked Pit's butt in our Light vs. Dark matches. I can't imagine this to be much different. I think this could even be fun, should my opponents actually prove to be a challenge. Fighting without having to try takes the fun right out of the fight.

[upon winning]

HA! I won! Not surprising considering how good of a fighter I am. All of those guys were easy to defeat. But surprisingly I enjoyed myself. However, this feeling could simply be one of Pit's feelings that has leaked into my being. We are connected after all.

I wonder, if I shared Pit's feelings does that mean he knew I was fighting and won? Or maybe he's just enjoying himself? Strange... But whatever this is, it has to work both ways. So I know that should I have a sudden change of emotion, it was probably Pit.

Now that I think about it, I could probably mess around with Pit by making myself angry, and putting those emotions on Pit. That would be quite the spectacle, and of course I'd be there to catch it all on video. And knowing Pit, he probably hasn't figured this out yet, as he is rather dull minded relying on Palutena to do his thinking for him.

I tend to get sidetracked when talking about Pit. I could go on all day complaining about him, but that can be saved for another time. Now is the time to celebrate my first brawl victory! Now if only I could find a place that sells decent cake.

In-Character 3rd person sample:
Dark Pit could see it. A few feet away from him was the one thing Pit always talked about. Floor Ice-Cream. Truthfully Dark Pit did not see the appeal. Eating ice-cream off the floor seemed disgusting. But he'd been told that this ice-cream had healing properties, and he was willing to test that theory.

Dark Pit hoped to prove Pit wrong, as that's what a rival would do. But he had a feeling Pit was right about this one. And yet, Dark Pit slowly approached the Floor Ice-Cream. When he was standing in front of it, Dark Pit knelt down, staring intently at the frozen treat, inspecting it. Dark Pit remembered Pit telling him about a special rule when it comes to Floor Ice-Cream, but he could quite remember it.

"You never know until you try." Dark Pit told himself quietly. Gently, he picked up the ice-cream and ate it. It was surprisingly good, tasting strongly of vanilla. All of a sudden Dark Pit had a weird feeling in his stomach. He began to feel a little nauseous, and that is when Dark Pit remembered what the rule of Floor Ice-Cream was: It only has healing properties if it's sent from the gods.

Dark Pit was going to throw up.
